HOW
TO MARKET WIFI LOCATIONS
In order to effectively market wireless
locations, the list below are some marketing/promotion strategies to build a
customer base quickly. HotSpotAXS offers templates of marketing signage and
instruction cards so locations can be easily customized to reflect their
individuality.
- Point of Sale (POS)
material located at entry-ways of locations is mandatory. Signage includes
SSID, company logo and additional information.
- POS material at
checkout and cash registers that includes instructions as to how to connect,
price, etc.
- Leaflets and handouts
promoting wireless access for customers to take with them.
- If the location is not
owned by the hotspot operator, encourage (through cash payments or other
benefits) the local management to promote and sell wireless on the operator’s
behalf.
- Supply a regular
customer or associate with a free account on the stipulation that he actively
promote wireless and help customers set up wireless on their machines.
- Identify technical
communities or groups in location cities and email their distribution lists
notifying them of wireless access at your location.
- List locations in
online hotspot directories, such as 80211hotspots.com, WiFinder.com, and
others.
- Issue press releases
announcing wireless initiative to coincide with major wireless industry
events.
- Develop online
newsletters that are mailed each month to all individuals who have signed up
on the operator’s web site.
- Pay for search engine
listing on Google and other major search engines. Link the web site to certain
keywords such as Wi-Fi, bookstores, and many others.
- Develop a referral
program. Customers receive one month of free service if they refer a person
who signs at least a one month contract.
- Give away a free
wireless networking card if customer signs up for a 12 month contract.
- Set up terminals in the
location. These terminals can be low cost PCs that include a wireless
networking card. These PCs can be set up anywhere in the location (do not have
to be plugged into a network connection) and will access the internet via the
same logon screen that wireless laptop/PDA users see.
- Rent laptops at
locations to generate interest in wireless.
- Rent Wireless cards for
laptop users.
- Advertise wireless
hotspots in local newspapers.
- Develop promotions and
bundles for wireless access and products. Examples include: "Buy an Ex Large
coffee, get 2 hours of free access" or "Buy 2 hours access, get free coffee."
