ROAMING SERVICES PROVIDERS
Roaming Services Providers (RSP) offer a valuable service to hotspot and hotzone broadband wireless access providers. Many of these network operators wish to offer an Internet access service, but lack a sufficiently large captive customer base to build subscriber volume. By signing up with Connecting-America, network operators can attract customers to their businesses and share in the revenue that the RSP generates from its subscribers. An example of this approach is the Atlanta International Airport wireless network where multiple RSPs manage all of the authentication and subscriber management for transient users.
Connecting-America and it Partners are a leading provider of gateways and centralized-authentication appliances designed to manage, provision and protect revenue-generating networks (RGN). Many of these networks are deployed using wireless technology. These are often hotspots or hotzones where RGNs require the ability to allow only authorized users on the network – accomplished through an authentication process. A popular means for this authentication is through service aggregators or roaming partners. Many hotspots are not able to attract customers willing to pay for temporary access, consequently we see an increase in the number of RSPs in the marketplace.
While our appliance has a built-in fully compliant RADIUS server it also can slave to third-party authentication databases such as SIP, RADIUS, active directory and LDAP. This makes networks managed and controlled by the server appliance ideal vehicles to authenticate fixed and transient users. Our server device is often chosen as the authentication and policy enforcement engine for networks where one or more service aggregators is partnered with operators that allow the aggregator’s clientele access to the network.
The Server's authentication process supports forced browser redirects, which give Services Providers the ability to have clients authenticate against their RADIUS servers, or customers can authenticate locally with attributes confirmed at the Services Provider server.
Hotspot and hotzone operators building their service delivery network around this technology can easily allow subscriber access while offering local or non-transient subscribers service.
The server allows network operators the flexibility to customize their Internet access requirements based upon their needs. A network operator providing Internet access in a hot spot such as a coffee shop may choose to partner with WorldROAM, while larger hot zone deployments in a large airport or town would require partnering with several Roaming Services Providers allowing roaming users access to an existing subscription or the flexibility to sign-up with a Roaming Services Provider that best suits their needs.
